SOUTH WHITTIER LIBRARY

Artwork for the new South Whittier branch of the County of Los Angeles Public Library. Each piece tells an aspect of the community’s history including Native Americans, farming, packing, ranching, transportation and the area’s namesake. At night, the pieces become lanterns across the site, each with a unique pattern that follows the watercolor background. The pieces vary in height and diameter as they move towards the library’s main entrance – a metaphor for the community gathering as they enter their new building. Photos by Greg Keating.
